If you love cats, it's very rewarding to foster.

You take care of them until they are old enough to be adoptable, usually only a few weeks. You have the satisfaction of helping that kitten become socialized and ready to be a perfect pet for someone.

Shelters that don't have enough foster parents have to turn away animals and they may wind up in kill shelters.

Are you saying "I'd become too attached to them?"

After fostering for more than 3 years, I know you fall in love with some of them, but just knowing that you helped that kitten become adoptable and find it's forever home is so rewarding. The sadness, quickly vanishes when you get the next litter.

Over 5 million animals (cats & dogs) are abandonded to shelters each year. 70% of the cats are euthanized because there is no room and no one to adopt them.

Some organizations need fosters for adult cats too.

Shelters are inundated with small kittens that have been abandoned, pregnant cats who need care, and momma cats with small kittens.

None of these are adoptable yet and sit in cages until foster parents can be found. Depending on how many volunteers are at the shelter, they have little interaction with people.

If you would like to learn more about fostering, order this CD. It takes you through all the life stages of a feline, explains what is involved in fostering, including fostering a pregnant cat, and covers some medical issues. It answers just about any question you may have. You can also contact us with questions.
